The Ensenada government commented on the Philadelphia plane crash deaths of a young child and her mother. Mayor spoke about the incident.

Philadelphia Mayor Cherelle L. Parker addressed the plane crash on X on February 1, 2025. She stated that seven people died in the January 31, 2025 tragedy. Two fatalities were a 31-year-old mother and her 11-year-old daughter, who had medical concerns, according to a family acquaintance.

Mayor Parker acknowledged that at least 19 people had been treated at several area hospitals and advised residents to follow official channels, including the Philadelphia Office of Emergency Management, for updates and recommendations. The public figure stressed the ongoing investigation.

She informed citizens that her administration is coordinating response efforts with the NTSB, local, state, and federal allies.

Parker thanked the aid but warned citizens to stay home since much work remains.

Mayor Parker included Valentina Guzmán Murillo and Lizeth Murillo Osuna among the seven deaths.

The President of Ensenada, Claudia Agatón Muñiz, offered her sympathies on Facebook over the tragic loss of life and the afflicted families.

In her post’s text image, she remembered the mother and girl. Muñiz’s message, originally in Spanish, has been translated into English as “I lament the loss of Lizeth Murillo Osuna and Valentina Guzmán Murillo.” I send my condolences and best wishes to their loved ones.”

The mayor added, “From the bottom of my heart, my deepest condolences to all their family and loved ones,” to her caption, which was loosely translated from Spanish to English. Wishing them courage and serenity throughout this terrible time.”

The Ensenada government, like Muñiz, published an official statement on the Philadelphia plane disaster, reflecting on the tragedy. The statement said the plane crashed in Tijuana, killing Ensenada citizens.

The city promised to provide psychological and thanatological support to mourning families.

The government promised to help repatriate and recover the victims’ remains and return them to Ensenada. Mayor Muñiz has ordered municipal departments to collaborate with state and federal authorities to provide prompt and effective aid to impacted families.

In addition to government findings, a family friend of the mother and girl who died in the tragedy spoke up.

Murillo has been treated at Shriners Children’s Hospital in Philadelphia since late August for a spinal problem, according to César Esparza, whose daughter was her classmate.

The hospital acknowledged her problems seeking sufficient therapy in Mexico, but did not provide information. Esparza called the late girl “a warrior” despite her health issues.

Shriners Children’s Philadelphia posted a heartfelt statement on Instagram about Murillo’s death, citing patient privacy considerations. The message revealed that she and her mother were returning to Mexico on the Jet Rescue Air Ambulance when it crashed.

“Our hearts and prayers go out to the families of the medical crew and pilots who were also lost in this tragic event—as well as all of the people affected on the ground—and we’re thankful to the first responders for their quick action,” the hospital said.

The number of injured victims has increased to 22, with five still hospitalized, three of them in critical condition.

The incident created major disruptions in Northeast Philadelphia, according to officials. The Department of Streets is coordinating route changes while Cottman Avenue remains closed between Bustleton Avenue and Roosevelt Boulevard.

This restriction has forced pedestrians, students, and SEPTA commuters to use the signalized pedestrian crossing at Friendship Street. Roosevelt Boulevard lanes are open despite these limitations.

NTSB investigators are at the crash site to identify the cause. The FAA said that the private Learjet 55 crashed after one minute.

The mother and daughter, together with four crew members, were on the jet from Springfield-Branson National Airport in Missouri to Mexico.

Due to the incident’s extensive impact, the city has scheduled a Wednesday town hall meeting where local leaders will address community concerns and offer resources.

The city’s solidarity for victims was reiterated by Mayor Parker at a media briefing. “This is a tragedy in our city—people have lost their lives, and many have been injured in this horrific crash,” she said, offering her condolences to the victims and their families.

Governor Josh Shapiro echoed her, praising first responders and emergency crews for their quick response and Pennsylvania’s complete support.

The American Red Cross—Southeastern Pennsylvania is helping victims at an emergency shelter.

For those grieving the crash, the city’s Department of Behavioral Health and Intellectual Disability Services offers mental health services.

Two people talking outside are startled by a loud boom in this January 31 video. They turn to see an aircraft, which crashes close after dropping swiftly. After a brief white flash, the explosion roars and onlookers scurry inside for protection.

The disturbing footage was widely discussed as weird and unnerving.

One guy said, “I know it was a plane, but it doesn’t look like it. It must have been the cloud coverage, because it appeared suddenly and spiked into the earth. It appears to be going quicker than a tiny plane.”

Another sympathized, “I know this had to be very scary! My sympathies to all the plane crash victims’ families,” while another said, “Can picture that being the scariest thing ever!!!”

The plane may have caught fire before impact, according to online viewers. Others remarked that a witness in the clip appeared to respond to an unusual sound before the plane crashed.

Some called the video one of the scariest they had ever seen, worried about frightened people. One commenter sympathized with the victims, especially after knowing a youngster was on board.

Friday’s incident occurred less than three miles from the airport about 6 p.m. Selkuc Koc, a neighboring diner server, heard a tremendous boom and thought it was a “thunderstorm.” When he peered outside, thick smoke and flames rose. He described it to a gas station blast.

The blast threw debris into surrounding structures. One diner patron was hurt when a big metal object smashed through a window, adding to the mayhem. Philadelphia Fire Commissioner Adam Thiel said investigators were still identifying everyone on the streets when the incident occurred, making it difficult to establish the total number of victims.

The NTSB investigated the four-to-six-block crash site, collecting debris and analyzing damage. NTSB Chair Jennifer Homendy called it a “high-impact crash” that “highly fragmented” the aircraft.

Investigators were still looking for the cockpit voice recorder, which could reveal what happened. The power of the collision worried officials that it would be destroyed or fragmented, but they hoped to collect and evaluate it.

 

Fox News said newly released Northeast Philadelphia Airport air traffic control recordings recorded the anxious minutes before the tragedy. The Learjet 55 did not respond to operators’ calls in the recording.

“What’s going on down there?” said a controller. “We lost an aircraft. It’s unclear what happened. Our goal is to figure it out. Air traffic controllers stated the field would be closed to inbound and outgoing flights.

The woman and kid reported by AP were joined by the Mexican pilot, copilot, physician, and paramedic, according to Fox News.

An expert examined footage and alternative causes to help police pinpoint the cause.

“The crew couldn’t control the plane. Uncontrolled flight into terrain occurred. Retired Philadelphia pilot John Anderson speculated that the stabilizer, elevator, trim, or cabin load shift may have caused the incident.

Anderson believed a poorly strapped stretcher could have moved backward, changing the plane’s center of gravity. This would lift the nose and stall the wing. He mentioned that the nose will descend with the video perspective.

The former pilot continued, “Because it was right after takeoff and the initial climb, I would say it was likely aswing stall. Several things could cause a stall. Possible runaway trim or stabilizer malfunction.” Authorities will investigate further as they gather evidence and assess damage.
