New Virus in the U.S. Sparks Expert Concerns

Scientists have discovered the Camp Hill virus, a henipavirus related to Nipah and Hendra, in shrews from Alabama. These viruses have a 70% mortality rate in humans, causing severe symptoms like respiratory distress, seizures, and encephalitis.

Lead researcher Rhys Parry reassures, “There is no evidence to suggest [it] has infected humans.” However, Dr. David Dyjack warns, “If it were to mutate and transmit to a human… that could be particularly threatening to all of mankind.”

Experts stress caution but urge against panic as research continues.
