We always love seeing people helping animals. It\u2019s a truly thankless job \u2014 animals don\u2019t usually\u00a0show much appreciation<\/a>\u00a0for a good deed.<\/p>\n

But sometimes animals have a\u00a0sweet way of saying \u201cthanks\u201d<\/a>\u00a0to their rescuers, like one kangaroo who offered a hand shake to the men who saved him.<\/p>\n

According to\u00a0Daily Mail Australia<\/a>, a man named David Boyd saw a kangaroo in Lake Burley Griffin in Canberra. The water was reportedly freezing, and the animal was unable to get out.<\/p>\n

But then, two brave bystanders braved the icy waters to help the roo to safety.<\/p>\n

The men approach carefully to not startle the kangaroo. Once they get close and try to grab its arms to lead it to safety, the kangaroo starts to flail its arms.<\/p>\n

But undeterred, the men get hold of the animal and lead it out of the water.<\/p>\n

A third man helps lift the kangaroo onto dry land, and helps keep the scared and shivering animal calm.<\/p>\n

While they seem gentle, kangaroos can be dangerous if they feel threatened. Their defenses include a strong punch akin to a boxer\u2019s, sharp claws and a kick that\u00a0experts say can disembowel a man<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Luckily, this kangaroo seemed to understand that these men were there to help \u2014 and in a heartwarming moment, even held out his paw as if to offer a handshake.<\/p>\n

\u201cAw, he\u2019s thanking you,\u201d the man filming the rescue is heard saying.<\/p>\n

According to Daily Mail Australia, the kangaroo was in \u201cshock,\u201d and needed a half hour to calm down.<\/p>\n

But according to\u00a0Courier Mail<\/a>, onlookers said the kangaroo eventually hopped along on its way, seemingly unharmed by the ordeal.<\/p>\n
