I\u2019ll be the first to admit that I\u2019m certainly no tech expert. When my computer starts acting up, I usually react by panicking and waiting for someone else to fix the issue. So on that note, I\u2019ve never known what the purpose of the F1 to F12 keys on my computer\u2019s keyboard is. If you, too, are unsure of these keys\u2019 functions, we\u2019re about to enlighten you!<\/p>\n

F1<\/h2>\n

This key is used for \u201chelp.\u201d If you use Windows OS and want the help of a program you\u2019re using, the F1 key will open up the help window.<\/p>\n

F2<\/h2>\n

F2 is used to rename selected files and folders. This shortcut works in all versions of Windows.<\/p>\n

F3<\/h2>\n

Pressing shift + F3 will change the content in Microsoft Word from upper to lower case letters at the start of each section.<\/p>\n

F4<\/h2>\n

In Windows Explorer and Internet Explorer, F4 will open the location bar. Pressing control + F4 will also close the current window open.<\/p>\n

F5<\/h2>\n

Pressing F5 will refresh the page or entire desktop.<\/p>\n

F6<\/h2>\n

Pressing F6 will move the cursor in the location bar. Control + shift + F6 will also open a document in Microsoft Word.<\/p>\n

F7<\/h2>\n

You can use F7 to check the spelling and grammar in documents in programs like Microsoft Word and Outlook.<\/p>\n

F8<\/h2>\n

Pressing the F8 key will make your PC enter safe mode while rebooting.<\/p>\n

F9<\/h2>\n

This key doesn\u2019t really have a purpose in Windows, but is often used in design programs like AutoCAD.<\/p>\n

F10<\/h2>\n

Pressing F10 will activate the menu in the organizer window. Pressing shift + F10 is the same as doing a right mouse click.<\/p>\n

F11<\/h2>\n

Pressing F11 works in any type of browser and will cause the window to enter full-screen mode.<\/p>\n

F12<\/h2>\n

In Microsoft Word, pressing F12 will open the \u201csave as\u201d prompt. Shift + F12 will save a document in Microsoft Word, and pressing control + shift + F12 will print a document.<\/p>\n
