It was an ordinary day when I sent my husband this picture, showing me with our neighbor\u2019s horse. I didn\u2019t think much of it. I\u2019d been helping out at the stables for a while, and this massive black horse had become my favorite. His name was Thunder, and he was gentle despite his size.<\/p>\n

But when my husband saw this picture, everything shifted. He zoomed in, scanned the image over and over again, and then his text came in\u2014cold and unexpected.<\/p>\n

\u201cI want a divorce.\u201d<\/p>\n

At first, I thought it was a joke. But then, he called. The anger in his voice was palpable.<\/p>\n

\u201cHow long has this been going on?\u201d he demanded.<\/p>\n

\u201cWait, what? What are you talking about?\u201d I was confused.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe shadow,\u201d he spat out. \u201cThe shadow on your back, don\u2019t lie to me.\u201d<\/p>\n

It was only then that I realized what he had seen. The shadow of Thunder\u2019s head and neck had cast a long, dark figure on my back\u2014one that looked disturbingly like the silhouette of a man standing behind me, hands around my waist.<\/p>\n

In that moment, I understood what he thought. To him, it looked like I wasn\u2019t alone. And no amount of explaining that it was just the horse\u2019s shadow could convince him otherwise. The picture had played a cruel trick on him, and his trust was shattered.<\/p>\n
