Whenever I think about people who would hurt animals, and even leave them\u00a0to die, I get sad.<\/span>\u00a0But fortunately, there are heroes out there, too.<\/span>\u00a0And two that I\u2019d like to give special thanks to\u00a0are\u00a0Bret Winingar and his son, Zach\u2026<\/span><\/p>\n

Bret and\u00a0Zach were\u00a0riding a motorcycle\u00a0on the back roads around Little Rock, Arkansas\u00a0when\u00a0they saw an old dog carrier.<\/span><\/p>\n

Their curiosity was piqued, so they went for a closer look. Shockingly, there was a severely malnourished dog inside.<\/p>\n

The carrier\u00a0was covered with feces, and the dog had chewed a hole in the carrier\u00a0in an apparent effort to free herself.<\/p>\n

The father and son\u00a0left the dog\u00a0for a little while\u2026<\/p>\n

\u2026And came back in a car with dog food and water.<\/p>\n

Bret and Zach decided to call her Charlie Bravo.<\/p>\n

The dog started showing her appreciation for her\u00a0rescuers before they even reached home.<\/p>\n

The first thing Bret and Zach\u00a0did was\u00a0trim Charlie Bravo\u2019s\u00a0claws. They\u00a0had grown so long during her time in the cage, that they curled inward, making it painful for the dog to walk.<\/p>\n

After that, it was time for a bath.<\/p>\n

Then, they took Charlie to the vet.<\/p>\n

The vet determined that\u00a0she was about eight months old. Based on\u00a0the wounds on the Charlie\u2019\u00a0body, the vet guessed that\u00a0she had been in the carrier\u00a0for a long time.<\/p>\n

Charlie Bravo\u2019s story quickly spread on Facebook. And soon, Bret and Zach\u00a0started receiving\u00a0donations from kind souls who wanted to help pay for Charlie\u2019s veterinary costs.<\/p>\n

Bret and his family gave the leftover donations to various animal charities, and also set\u00a0up a new fund for rescued animals called\u00a0\u201cCharlie\u2019s Angels<\/a>.\u201d<\/p>\n

Bret\u2014who initially hadn\u2019t even thought of keeping Charlie\u2014couldn\u2019t bring himself\u00a0to giving the dog\u00a0away. Since rescuing Charlie, Bret and his family have also adopted three more\u00a0rescued dogs.<\/p>\n
