Max Armstrong, a 40-year-old man, shared his devastating experience of losing both his legs due to a burn on his thumb. While camping in Kiowa, Colorado, he accidentally burned his thumb while preparing dinner,
Dismissing the burn as minor, he didn’t realize the infection would turn life-threatening. A few days later, he noticed swelling in his legs, and by December 7th, his toenails turned purple. He sought medical attention, where doctors discovered that strep sepsis had developed from the burn,Armstrong fell into a six-day coma and awoke to the news that his feet had become blackened and had to be amputated. He later underwent surgery to remove both legs. Despite this, Armstrong remains determined, focusing on rehabilitation to adapt to a life using a wheelchair.
