FBI Launches Investigation into James Comey Over Alleged Spying on Trump Campaign

The FBI has recently initiated an investigation into former FBI Director James Comey, following allegations that he authorized an operation to spy on the Trump campaign during the 2016 election cycle. These new developments come in the wake of reports suggesting that Comey, under the Obama administration, ordered two “honeypot” agents to infiltrate the campaign with the intent of gathering information through romantic relationships.

The allegations, which were disclosed by a whistleblower and later revealed by the House Judiciary Committee, claim that Comey initiated an off-the-books investigation in 2015, targeting the Trump campaign. According to the whistleblower’s testimony, two female undercover agents were assigned to the mission, tasked with gaining access to the campaign through personal relationships with high-ranking officials. These agents reportedly traveled with Trump and some of his senior staff during the critical months leading up to the election.

The whistleblower’s statement, as reported by The Washington Times, suggests that Comey’s investigation had no formal foundation and was not logged into the FBI’s official case management systems, such as Sentinel. This has raised concerns about the legality and transparency of the operation. The whistleblower’s disclosure notes, “The case had no predicated foundation, so Comey personally directed the investigation without creating an official case file in Sentinel or any other FBI system.” This has led to suspicions that Comey’s actions could have been part of a covert and unauthorized operation, one that bypassed the standard procedures of the bureau.

As more information has emerged, conservative commentator Nick Sortor weighed in on the matter, commenting on X (formerly Twitter), “JUST IN: Kash Patel and the FBI have launched an investigation into former Director James Comey’s spying on President Trump’s 2016 campaign. JUSTICE IS COMING! 🔥 Comey and the Obama FBI sent two female ‘honeypot’ agents to infiltrate the Trump campaign, traveling with Trump as well as some high-level staffers, per Washington Times. Worse, this was an ‘OFF THE BOOKS’ operation, and the Trump FBI is now attempting to locate those agents.”

The investigation into Comey’s actions has sparked renewed debate over the FBI’s role in political matters and the extent to which federal agencies have been involved in the internal politics of presidential campaigns. As the probe intensifies, the agency faces increasing pressure to explain its past actions and ensure transparency regarding the methods used to monitor and investigate political campaigns.

In addition to the whistleblower revelations, Comey’s personal views about Donald Trump have also come under scrutiny. During an interview ahead of the 2020 election, Comey voiced concerns about the potential consequences of a second Trump administration. He warned that if Trump were re-elected, he would likely seek to “corrupt” federal institutions that he had not successfully controlled during his first term. This statement has raised eyebrows, especially given the ongoing investigation into Comey’s own role in government affairs during the 2016 election cycle.

In the interview, MSNBC host Alex Wagner asked Comey about the implications of a second Trump administration on the FBI and other federal institutions. Comey responded by expressing deep concerns over Trump’s potential influence on the Justice Department and the FBI. He said, “Oh, serious for the Justice Department and the FBI, because Trump is coming for those institutions.” Comey went on to suggest that Trump regretted not taking stronger action to influence the federal agencies during his first term, warning that a second term would see Trump placing individuals who were more loyal to him into key positions.

“Trump knows their power,” Comey continued, “and I think he has regrets that he didn’t work hard enough to corrupt them last time. So he’s coming for them, and that’s a danger for all Americans. He’s going to put people in positions in those organizations he didn’t have all stars the last time.”

In his comments, Comey painted a grim picture of a potential second Trump administration, urging Americans to vote for Joe Biden, arguing that the stakes were too high to allow Trump another term in office. “He’ll have the bottom of the barrel this time, but people who want to do His will, and that should worry every American,” Comey said. “This election matters because of a reason like that. People have to participate. You cannot sit on the sideline, I don’t care how you feel about Joe Biden, you must vote for him because the consequences on the other side are too severe.”

While Comey’s remarks were made during the final months of the 2020 election, they now take on additional weight amid the ongoing investigation into his own alleged misconduct during the 2016 election. The investigation into Comey’s actions is likely to continue to evolve as more details surface, with political observers and legal experts awaiting further developments in the case. The outcome of this investigation could have far-reaching implications for the FBI’s credibility and the broader political landscape as the United States prepares for future elections.
