Oh, boy—humanity has some serious work to do.

Before his death in 2018, renowned physicist Stephen Hawking predicted that humanity might have only 600 years left if major changes aren’t made. He pointed to two main threats: rapid population growth and excessive energy consumption. Speaking in 2017, Hawking warned that by 2600, Earth could become a “giant ball of fire” as energy use makes the planet uninhabitable.

NASA shares similar concerns, highlighting climate change and the greenhouse effect as major risks. Hawking also identified other threats, including global pandemics, nuclear war, and the rise of unchecked artificial intelligence.

His message is clear: urgent action is needed to prevent a bleak future for humanity.
